COVID-19 came and spread faster than anyone could imagine. It is crazy to think one day we were all okay and the next there were thousands of people suffering from a potentially fatal virus. During this time we have to ensure that we are staying healthy physically, mentally and spiritually. It is so easy to become overwhelmed and stressed about what we see in the media and social media, but we need to make sure that we are doing what we need to do to be healthy in all aspects. Here are five things that you can do to stay healthy --physically, mentally and spiritually!
1. Workout for at least 60 minutes everyday.
There are several things that occur in the body when you work out. Several different neurotransmitters start to release that give you a happy feeling such as endorphins, serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine, your immune system improves, your energy increases and you get better sleep. Overall you become less stressed and more happy. We definitely need that during these times. Be sure to get your 60 minutes in, whichever way you need to. There are so many resources out there. I currently have online group fitness classes for 25€, but there are so many free resources out there on Youtube and Facebook!
2. Read books that you have saved for a rainy day.
If you're like me, you probably have at least 10 books waiting to be read. Many of them I bought thinking... "I like this, I could definitely find time to read this" and then it comes down to it and I have ZERO time. Well... now we have all day if you're not working or if you're working from home. We find time for all the things that we want, but not necessarily for those that we need. Read a book every two weeks, because Lord knows how long we will be quarantined. I'm sure you'll end up binge watching all the tv shows and movies on Netflix, so why not add a book or two to your to do list! There are so many great books out there if you do not have a collection built up. Among mine are Becoming by Michelle Obama, You are a Badass by Jen Sincero and Girl Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis. Highly recommend!
3. Journal out your thoughts every day.
Journaling is so important, especially right now. We need to have healthy ways to let out our emotions through these uncertain times and this could definitely be your outlet. Let it out, Girl. Tell your journal all the things you've wanted to say about everything that has affected you today, this week, this month or even this year. Because we all know 2020 has been one hell of a year. (Even in its three month infancy). I try to journal everyday and I'm actually working on making it a habit to do it every morning for about 10-15 minutes. Give it a try. Maybe you don't like journaling, why not voice memo your feelings for 10-15 minutes a day?! It does the same purpose and you'll for sure feel like you got so much off your chest. Happy Journaling/Voice Recording!
4. Clean out that one extremely cluttered room.
Have you been putting off cleaning your closet room or folding laundry? Well now we truly have no excuse. The first day of this quarantine, I literally cleaned my whole house for a good five hours straight. For me, having clutter overwhelms me and it makes me feel so much better to have a nice, clean, airy house! Oh the joy! Maybe you enjoy cleaning and you just haven't had enough time to do everything you need to do. Or maybe you don't and it makes you feel horrible to even think about. Regardless, just do it! You'll be surprised how it makes you feel and it could be the de-stress-er you needed in your life.
One of the most essential, most talked about thing you could do during this time is REST. Yes, REST! I have put off rest for the last five months while opening up Heart and Soul Fitness and I worked just about everyday since the opening. Many days I would wake up a 4 A.M. when I had just fallen asleep at 10:30 P.M.. So I'm especially taking advantage of this time I get to catch some extra z's in. Rest for many of us may not look like sleep. Maybe you would like to take a bath, take a nap, sit on the couch for a second without HAVING to do anything or meditating for 30 minutes without interruption. Whatever your rest looks like, make sure you're getting PLENTY of it! Getting much needed rest helps keep you healthy physically, mentally and spiritually to combat this virus. We need all of it. Take your much needed REST.
I hope you all continue to stay safe out there. Remember to stay indoors as much as possible, wash your hands often, drink a lot of water and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. As the numbers rise, remember that we are quarantining and social distancing ourselves for the good of others. This virus may not affect one person how it may another, so make sure to keep a considerate and positive approach when it comes to your part in this. Let's continue to flatten the curve and protect those who can not protect themselves.
This is my first blog of many and I hope you all enjoy it! Tell me what kind of topics you would like me to cover in my future blogs in the comment section below!
